Sustainable Success Stories

Sustainable Success Stories presents real-life, implemented, sustainable initiatives. I strongly believe that the good example is a more efficient learner than any number of guidebooks, manuals, toolkits, and workshops. This site is dedicated to showcasing the good example so that planners, decisions-makers, mayors, politicians, civil servants, researchers, and citizens who are looking for better ways, can become inspired to do similar activities in their own domain.

Only projects or initiatives which have actually been implemented and have proven successful are included on this site. This means that pilot projects would normally not qualify as they typically are implemented as part of a support scheme and as such may not reflect normal or realistic cost and benefit conditions.

The site also has a Technology section where a non-exhaustive list of climate smart or sustainable technologies are shortly described, for inspiration.

When selecting sustainable success stories I am looking for initiatives which:

  • Are fully and successfully implemented
  • Have qualities which can be replicated in other contexts
  • Demonstrate clearly one or more sustainable qualities

As is often the case in reality, some stories may also contain less sustainable elements, and the stories will normally describe this. It will also be explained why a story is considered to be a sustainable success story.

The selection process is fully neutral and independent, and free of affiliation with any organisation, government, business, political movement, or otherwise.  It is, however, personal and, being Danish, I may occasionally be guilty of a slight bias in favor of stories with such national affiliation. Although this will not impact my assessment of the story’s value in terms of sustainability, it may lead to overrepresentation, for which, if this is or would become the case, I pre-emptively apologise.

Unless indicated otherwise, all content is written by me, Peter Oksen.

More stories will be added as I find the time, and on the About page you can sign-up to be notified when new stories are published. This site is a purely personal and non-commercial undertaking, and there are no advertising, sharing of data, cookies or whatever of that sort taking place here.

I hope you will find the information presented on my site useful. You are most welcome to leave serious comments on individual stories, suggest new ones, or send me cordial feed-back.
